New years are all about making lists. Favorites lists. Least favorites lists. Top ten celebrity hot messes lists. Lists about lists. You name it, there's a list. So of COURSE I have to make a list...maybe this one will be my top most memorable...things of this year. No specific category or numbers. Simple? Maybe. Typical? Definitely. But you have to admit, everyone loves a good list. In no particular order, here are my top people/moments/media of the year that was.
1. L a d y G a g a
Yes, she was the break out star of 2009. Yes, she's crazy looking, crazy-talented, and just plain crazy. Love her or hate her, everyone noticed her. She got our attention, a TRUE pop star. More importantly for me, though, her songs "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" provided the soundtrack to my senior year. I can't hear either song without memories of my besties, or going downtown on a Friday night. Oh Gaga, you will forever make me feel nostalgic.
2. I r e l a n d
Finally made a trip to the land of my people, and it was far less glamorous than other places I've had the privilege of visiting (Italy, Switzerland...Canada...). And that's what I loved about it. The food sucks. The people are a little insane. The Guinness is a little bit better. And the countryside is absolutely gorgeous. I hung upside down off of a decrepit old castle to essentially make out with a piece of rock. And how was your summer?
As a birthday present to myself, I did something I had always wanted to do, and that would be sticking a hole in my face. My mama wanted to kill me, and rightfully so. And although karma got to me and my lip piercing mysteriously fell out and closed up overnight, I love the four months we spent together. I loved looking a little more badass, and I'm sure people who knew me when I was younger would have been shocked to see it. I miss it dearly. RIP.
4. P u m p k i n C h e e s e c a k e
If you know me well, you know I am hazardous to any kitchen situation. So, when I decided to tackle an all-out Thanksgiving treat, it was pretty miraculous that my cake came out so well. I got rave reviews! Taking orders for the next holiday now...
5. T i k T o k
Guilty pleasure. Last year it was Shake It. She looks like a hot mess version of T-Swift, but Ke$ha (...with a dollar sign) reserved the spot of my most played song with her musical treat. Gotta love some white girl r@p.
Sorry to get all mushy gushy, but he was my favorite part of 2009. Hands down.
7. D e w e y B e a c h T r i p
Five days of sun, sand, and friends. Laying out on the beach by day, partying by night. That was a pretty nice vacation from reality.
8. G r a d u a t i o n
The day I (honestly) had been dreading since I was a little kid. I guess it stems from the fact that a) I wanted to be a kid forever and b) I used to abhor change. If I'm happy, I want things to stay exactly as they are. And I was never more happy than the four years I spent in Baltimore. It was surreal to think in the blink of an eye it was over, and it actually is still surreal. No more dance parties, midnight breakfasts, Gatorade fights, kidnappings and ransom notes, staying out til 5am, hearing the Elephant Man's sweet trumpet, seeing families of fake white rates in a monsoon, angry cafeteria ladies who dislike my shoes. But I realized that while you go through major life adjustments, things don't have to change. And change is actually a good thing (see # 6 on my list plz).
So, the point of my post..here's to change, all the things to look forward to in 2010, and growing up a little bit while still being a kid at heart.

...and here's to hoping I actually keep up with this blog...
